Gravitational Fields

Gravitational Fields Fields are commonly called “spheres of influence” Fields, like forces, are vector quantities and therefore have a direction – shown by field lines The more lines, the greater the field Gravitational fields are what cause gravitational force Since all masses have a gravitational force, all masses have a field

Calculating Gravitational Fields There are two ways to calculate gravitational fields: Using a TEST OBJECT Using the object producing the greater field

Sample Problem Calculate the gravitational field strength on the surface of the Earth

Sample Problem On the surface of the Earth an object has a weight of 76.3 N and a mass of 7.78 kg. Using this information, what is the gravitational field strength on the surface of the Earth?
