Non-Resident Villager (NRV) movement Gyan–key read - write - speak An initiative of Non-Resident Villager (NRV) movement

Encouraging rural students to read and react..

Gyan-key initiative is working towards opening libraries in rural secondary schools. It is a unique concept – a library for the students, by the students.

The library will be managed by one of the girl students “Gyan-key monitor”

3 Gyan-key libraries every working day. Till date we have opened 3,280 libraries in 3,280 rural secondary schools in 1,165 working days benefiting more than 8,50,000 rural students.

Each library has minimum 180/200 books on various subjects in local languages, that benefits approximately 270 rural students of 4 to 8 ad-joining villages. To instill a sense of ownership & belonging, Students will be encouraged to donate books on their birthdays, regardless of its value, for ‘their’ library.

You too can participate in this initiative… At just Rs. 6,700/- you have a chance to contribute for a worthy cause that provides you an opportunity to inculcate a reading habit in rural secondary school students. To build transparency, the money will be collected in the form of a cheque drawn / transfer directly in favour of the distributor. You will receive letters from the schools and reactions from students once the library is established, besides regular updates on the progress.

Highlights of Gyan-key library Initiative This is the world’s largest rural reading initiative. Minimum one primary book on all genres is available in each Gyan-key library. Till date 26 successful programs and contests run for Gyan-key school students, teachers & Principals, which saw participation of 1,39,000 rural students. 3 Gyan-key libraries are opened every working day. With the help of Non-Resident Villagers (NRV) 3,280 Gyan-key libraries were installed in rural secondary schools in 1,165 working days benefitting 8,50,000 students.

continued… Till date 6,25,000 books are distributed worth Rs.1,56,10,000/- Till date we have received 1,00,750 postcards & donors have 1,10,650, capturing the students reactions on books they have read. (you can see this communication in our office) This initiative is one of the most effective way to keep regional languages alive. Target – To open 94,000 Gyan-key libraries in rural secondary schools across tomorrow’s India.
