3.1 Population Dynamics 3.1.1 Describe the nature and explain the implications of exponential growth in human populations.

World population growth has been exponential Watch this World population growth has been exponential Mind map the possible positive and negative implications this growth could cause...adding examples wherever you can

(and can you JUSTIFY your opinion?) Whose right? Malthus: population growth is geometric (exponential) whilst the earths power to produce subsistence is arithmetic. This will lead to catastrophe (dieback) Boserup: population determines agricultural methods. A major point of her work is that "necessity is the mother of invention". It was her great belief that "The power of ingenuity would always outmatch that of demand". Whose right? (and can you JUSTIFY your opinion?)

3.1.2 Calculations Calculate and explain, from given data, the values of crude birth rate, crude death rate, fertility, doubling time and natural increase rate. In 2007 there were 3250 births in a city with a population of 223000. What was it’s CBR per 1000 population? In 2006 in New Mexico there were 2010787 people and a CDR of 7.57 residents per 1000 population. How many people died? If CBR of New Mexico in 2006 was 10.25 what was the natural increase rate?

Task 1; complete questions 1 and 2 on page 168 NOTE: For the World, show all data and calculations. For the rest, just write the answer into a table in your book. Complete question 3 as a SHORT essay on a separate piece of paper (so that I can collect it in for marking )
