A Little About Me… Married with twin boys! Began teaching in 2004. Masters in Teaching Enjoy teaching Intermediate and middle school grades 4-5 (all subjects) grades 6-7 math Prior to teaching had a long corporate career

Student Expectations Good Citizenship Be Safe Be Respectful and Kind Be Responsible Intrinsic “investment” in his/her own education Do his/her best work Have fun!

CC6 Math Curriculum Aligned with rigor of Common Core State Standards Students keep home copy of text book at home Learning through problem solving Comprehension is key… Significant amount of text throughout the book Important to keep thorough notes in their spiral journal 7 units with emphasis on Number Sense, Data and Statistics, Geometry and Algebra Current text and answer keys have some typo’s

Math Spiral Journal & Binder Website Class Syllabus Family Access: Students & families are responsibility for checking status Please check often for grades and missing assignments Updated frequently If absent, students are responsible for using these resources to make up work.. Missed work due after same number of days absent

Daily Supplies Sharpened pencils (min. 2) Binder with a designated “Math Tab” Designated graph paper spiral notebook Basic calculator Correcting pen & highlighter (2 colors preferred) Ruler (inches and centimeter – clear) Dry erase marker Students will need to replenish as needed Supplies scholarships are available via the office

Students Should Stay Organized Binder & Math Spiral Journal The “Key” to Success Both must be kept neat and up to date Binder (designated Math Tab): Stamp Sheets, Syllabus, general handouts Spiral: Classwork: thorough notes/ example problems/lesson handouts Homework completed on the next full blank page Important information is either in the binder, spiral or on my website Please ask to see them on a regular basis 3-Ring Binder All Subjects Math Spiral Journal Math One tab designated to Math

It’s Been a Long Time… How do I help my child with this stuff??? Review and sign the Syllabus with your child Become familiar with my website for assignments and due dates Stay up on Family Access Insist your child refers back to the class notes while doing homework Use the math links on my website for help/videos or just “Google it” Help Your Kids with Math Covers most middle school math concepts Encourage your child to ask questions in class. Other kiddos probably have the same ones.  8. Please do not give your child the answers… Encourage, prompt, motivate

Grading Policies Daily Homework 25% Assessments: Stamp Sheet Family Access Late Homework 70% credit Missing Homework 50% credit Assessments: Check-Ups and Quizzes 25% Unit Assessments 50% (All assignments and/or assessments much be completed by the end of each Unit – lowest grade is 50% of total points) Success Indicators: Noted in “Comments” section of report card Work Habits (quality, completeness, punctuality) Initiative (self-advocacy, reflection, persistence) Collaboration (team work, inclusion, participation) Citizenship (integrity, conduct, respect)
