#dlbb IU Libraries and the Center for Biological Research Collections Imago at 1 year Jennifer Laherty Gary Motz Wen Ng Jim Halliday INDIANA UNIVERSITY BLOOMINGTON

Imago’s role in the promotion of: aggregation for big data research preservation of digital objects reproducibility of science data accessibility metadata sharing

Imago is a: Dynamic Metadata-Enabled Architecture for Research Accessibility Digital Objects Repository for Biodiversity Science Data Nexus for Linked Open Data and the Semantic Web Preservation Archive for Digital Permanence

Imago is built with: Fedora Sufia Hydra Solr Blacklight International Image Interoperability Framework Through the combination of the Sufia and Curation Concerns gems, active development is leading us to adopt Hyrax as the repository architecture underlying Imago.

Metadata Darwin Core Audubon Core Dublin Core Lightweight with robust metadata managed externally Novel metadata strategies for 3D digitized collection objects (Collaborative enterprise between RT, IUL, IUPUI, CBRC…) Forward thinking in digital preservation has put IU at the vanguard of development of community standards and archival practices for 3D objects.

Imago provides linkages with:

Use Cases | Creates Opportunities Publication of supplemental data for research projects Integration of field work, lab work, published and unpublished data Association of field photos, notes, specimens, sequences, etc. Tracked changes between published research and the research community Critical connections to external data services and big data aggregators Preservation of digital objects for research sustainability Association of field photos, notes, specimens, sequences, etc. Sharing of research data becomes a two-way street

Imago used to be just a collection of 2D images from the Herbarium…but now we’ve integrated more complex metadata schemas to allow for multiple bitstream works in Imago and will soon incorporate the IIIF universal viewer which will facilitate in-frame page turning for books and PDFs, zoomable tiled-viewers for ultra high resolution 2D imagery, and dynamic 3D object viewers. Imago augments collection management Links media to relational database Digital content from Imago http://go.iu.edu/1Am0

Imago preserves & displays digital content (of almost any type…but we’re getting there!) PDF documents 35mm slides Ultra-high resolution imagery 3D objects Multimedia http://go.iu.edu/1Am1 http://go.iu.edu/1Am2
