5 strong origin and mission Founded in 2015 as a “spinoff” organization The mission of the 5 Strong Scholarship Foundation is to increase the retention and graduation rates at partnering Historically Black Colleges and Universities by assisting in the enrollment and success of academically promising student leaders until graduation.

5 Strong selection process Be a graduating senior Have a strong interest in attending one or more of our partnering HBCU’s If selected, be committed to attending the mandatory college prep sessions. Have a minimum 2.5 GPA and a minimum 19 ACT/980 SAT. Have a strong desire to get involved and be active on campus

Bethune Cookman University Bethune-Cookman University, or simply B-CC (as it was formerly called) or B-CU, is a private historically black university in Daytona Beach, Florida. Currently ranked #25 amongst HBCU’s BCU won best “Business Program of the Year” among HBCU’s in 2017 BCU ranked 5th among HBCU’s with online programs

Fisk University U.S. News & World Report’s 2016 rankings continued Fisk in the prestigious Tier One of National Liberal Arts Colleges/ Universities. Only four HBCUs – Fisk University, Claflin University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College – are ranked in Tier One. Among the four institutions, Fisk is the only one that has a BA to MA to PhD pipeline in the natural sciences and does so at the lowest tuition and fees costs. On the list of Best HBCUs, Fisk ranked #7. For the 23rd consecutive year, the Princeton Review ranked Fisk among the “Best Southeastern Colleges.” In September 2012, the National Science Foundation released its most recent study ranking U.S. higher education programs by their expenditures in research and development. Fisk University’s research in the physical sciences ranks in the top 3 percent while Fisk’s overall research ranks in the top 8 percent among all U.S. universities and colleges.

Langston University Langston University is a public university in Langston, Oklahoma, United States. It is the only historically black college in the state and the westernmost historically black college in the United States. Known as a leader in the field of agricultural research, and hosts the internationally recognized E (Kika) de la Garza Institute for Goat Research. Has one of the top ranked Doctor of Physical Therapy programs among HBCU’s.

Lincoln University PA Lincoln University was founded in 1854 as the nation's first degree-granting Historically Black College and University, or HBCU. Lincoln University was founded in 1854 as the nation's first degree-granting Historically Black College and University, or HBCU.  During its first 100 years, Lincoln graduated approximately 20 percent of the black physicians and more than 10 percent of the black attorneys in the nation.  Most notable alumni are Thurgood Marshall and Langston Hughes.

Scholar Highlight-TRIPP Freeman (BCU) Finished his freshman year with a 3.9 GPA while playing baseball. Currently Vice-President of the Sophomore class. Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Brother 2 Brother.

Scholar Highlight-Carlos Jamison (AAMU) Carlos Jamison is a member of the 2nd cohort of the 5 Strong Scholarship Foundation. Carlos graduated high school with a 3.5 GPA and plans to major in Criminal Justice with a minor in Chemistry. In high school, he was involved in Varsity Basketball where he served as the team captain, Varsity Soccer, FBLA, National Honor Society, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, and was also Senior Class President.

Scholar Highlight- Joreal Eady (Langston University) Joreal Eady is a member of the 2nd cohort of the 5 Strong Scholarship Foundation. She graduated high school with a 3.2 GPA and plans to pursue a major in Public Health. In high school, Joreal was a member of Maxwell Student Ambassadors, HOSA, Work Ready, Georgia Secretary of State Student Ambassadors, Discovery Student Ambassadors, Student Council, Chorus, and Band.

Scholar Highlight- Niya Mayo (AAMU) Niya Mayo is a rising sophomore who finished her freshman year with a 3.8 GPA. As a Pre-Med major, she is involved in Chemistry Club and a host of other activities. She spent the summer at a Pre-Med program an Meharry School of Medicine and will attend each summer setting her up to enter Meharry as a Medical student when she graduates from AAMU.
