Golden LEAF Foundation Receives and distributes a portion of the funds from the settlement of litigation involving the manufacture of tobacco products. Created in 1999 as a non-profit corporation by Court Order in the consent decree resolving litigation initiated by the NC Department of Justice. Helps tobacco dependent and economically distressed communities.

Golden LEAF Foundation Purpose To make grants and support nonprofit organizations and governmental entities in their efforts to promote the social welfare of North Carolina’s citizens and to distribute funds to lessen the economic impact of changes in our tobacco economy. The Foundation’s objective is to assist rural communities as they adapt to changing economic conditions and as they make a transition to more diversified economic bases.

Golden LEAF Agriculture Grants 165 grants—most grants in any Golden LEAF priority area Approximately $24 million in agriculture grants Focus on creating new and improved economic opportunities for farmers; have not funded farmland preservation
