Year 2 class news at Ysgol y Ddraig Week Ending: Friday 13th October Reminders Year 2 Gates – Polite Reminder: As our school day starts at 8:50am, we need to close the gates at the same time. Afterschool clubs have now started, therefore our school gates need to be closed at 3:15pm to ensure our children are safe. Reading Folders – Please bring reading bags in on your child’s allocated reading day. If you are unsure of when this is please check inside your child’s yellow reading record or ask your child’s teacher. P.E Days – Your child will have P.E every Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has a P.E kit which should include a white t-shirt, black shorts/joggers and black plimsoles. Belongings - Please ensure all children’s property is clearly labelled. Twitter – Daily photographs and updates on class activities are uploaded to @ysgolyddraig. Look out for #Rheidol and #Coch. This week… Our whole school focus has been RE and preparation for our Harvest Festival yesterday. We started the week by listening to the Bible story ‘Feeding the 5000.’ We also discussed the role of a food bank in a community and considered what foods we might donate to a food bank. We created a Harvest prayer using adjectives and alliteration. We performed a wonderful Harvest song called ‘Five a Day’ to the rest of our Foundation Phase friends and listened to a story from Rev. Hibbert. We were material investigators in our topic work this week and we helped to identify which materials were waterproof. We learnt the meaning of ‘absorbent’ and talked about the properties of different materials. We practised our coding skills using the Beebot (programmable toy) and Hwb, as we were set a challenge to input a set of instructions to collect items from Mr Grinling’s lunch. Thank you to all families who have sent in children’s home learning tasks. We are really enjoying sharing these as a class.
