Badminton

Equipment “Racquets” “Shuttle” or “Birdie”

Badminton History Games using shuttle have been played for centuries across Eurasia but the modern game of badminton developed in the mid-19th century in Great Britain. Exact date is unknown It was adapted from an earlier game known as “Battledore and Shuttlecock” Battledore is an older term for “racquet” Still very popular in Europe and Asia

Badminton A racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttle or birdie across a net. The most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach Formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttle with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court.

Scoring Best of 3 games wins (first team to win 2 games) Games are played to 21 Must win by 2 points. Switch sides after each game. One point is earned for each time you get the shuttle to land in the opposing teams court. Rally scoring is used meaning you can score a point whether your team is serving or not.

How to Serve HIGH SERVE Played with a forehand underarm action. - Stand behind the service line. - Bend your knees slightly. - Lead with your non-racket leg. - Bring your racket back to almost your shoulder level then swing it forward. - Hold the shuttle by the feathers and let it drop slightly in front of you. - Hit it with the flat face of your racket and follow through
