QUIZ ! Corruption Myths This is an optional exercise that can be used either for the opening session, before you get into Session 1 on “Introduction to Anti-corruption” or as an ice-breaker/introduction to Session 2 . In either case, you may decide to use it or not depending on the available time.

QUIZ: Myths about corruption! There are many myths about corruption. It can be misunderstood because of the limited knowledge on conceptual and empirical evidence. Let’s test your knowledge and try to respond to some myths! This quiz can always be added to by trainers, to extend the activity. QUIZ!

QUIZ: Myths about corruption: Question 1 Women are less corrupt than men. True False It depends Don’t know Answer: B. False This myth rests on the fact that women hold less posts than men so can take fewer bribes. But there is not solid evidence proving this statement.

QUIZ: Myths about corruption: Question 2 Corruption can facilitate economic growth? True False It depends Don’t know Answer: B. False This myth rests on the facts that the bribery may facilitate the transaction costs, but in the long run, it erodes the systems and institutions.

QUIZ: Myths about corruption: Question 3 Capital flight is not corruption? Yes No Don’t know It depends Answer: It depends whether the capital flight is legal or illegal. If it is illegal, an important segment may come from corrupt transactions.

Every culture has a good understanding of what is bribery/corruotion and what is present/gift. For example, Afrobarometer, an independent group that measures political attitudes in Africa, found that a significant majority of citizens condemn public officials who locate development projects where friends and supporters live, who demand favours for state services and who give jobs to unqualified family members and friends.
