4/8/2012 am Change (Part 6) 1 John 4:1-3 Micky Galloway

Change is coming. 1 Timothy 4:1 “But the Spirit saith expressly, that in later times some shall fall away from the faith”

Subject To Change? Founded upon Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Began in Jerusalem about 33 A.D. Christ is its head and only source of authority. Christ built only one church. The Lord added the saved to the church.

Subject To Change? Only those who believed, repented, and were baptized for the remission of sins were added to the church. Majority of men will be lost. Organized after the divine pattern. No creed but the Bible. Scriptural in name. Members called by Scriptural names.

Subject To Change? Worship according to the Scriptures. Has a divine mission.

Matthew 21:23 “And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?” Shows the importance of the proper source of authority!

l. Martin Luther, the great German reformer, felt that we were at liberty to do anything not expressly forbidden. 2. Ulrich Zwingle, the great Swiss reformer, felt that only that which is expressly authorized should be taught and practiced.

“What Must I Do To Be Saved?” (Acts 2:37; 22:3-10; 9:6; 16:30) 4/8/2012 am Subject To Change? “What Must I Do To Be Saved?” (Acts 2:37; 22:3-10; 9:6; 16:30) Micky Galloway

"What Must I Do To Be Saved?" The Question: "What Must I Do To Be Saved?" A. Person who asks this question is lost. B. “What” – terms, conditions to be met. C. “Must” – obligation, necessity. D. “I” – question is personal. E. “Do” – a verb, action, Acts 2:40. F. “To be saved” – the desired end or aim. “Saved” = pardon or forgiveness of sins, Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38.

The Question Is Not Subject To Change: What must God do for one to be saved? John 3:16 What did Christ have to do before I could be saved? Acts 13:29 Jesus Christ, died for us – Romans 5:6-9 What part does the Holy Spirit play in an individual’s salvation? John 16:13; Mark 16:20; Ephesians 3:3-4; 6:17 Are God’s grace, mercy, love and the blood of the cross important? Ephesians 2:1-8

The Need To Properly Answer This Question Has Not Changed What Is Sin And Its Effect? Violation of God's law – 1 John 3:4; James 4:17 Separates man from God – Isaiah 59:1-2 Causes spiritual death – Romans 3:23; 6:23

The Question: “What Must I Do?” The Answers: A. To the jailer, Acts 16:25-31 B. To the audience in Acts 2, verses 37-38 C. To Saul of Tarsus, Acts 22:3-10, 16; cf. Acts 9:6 Why Did The Answers Differ? A. The questions were asked by people in different circumstances, Mark 12:34, “not far from the kingdom” Matthew 15:8, “heart is far from me”

“How far to the next gas station?” 10 miles “How far to the next gas station?” Next Gas 55 miles Next Gas 30 miles

The Three Cases Examined

“What Must I Do To Be Saved?” SALVATION “What Must I Do To Be Saved?” Believe, Repent, Baptism The Jailer. Acts 16:32-34

“What Must I Do To Be Saved?” SALVATION “What Must I Do To Be Saved?” Repent, Baptism Jews in Acts 2:36-38

“What Must I Do To Be Saved?” SALVATION “What Must I Do To Be Saved?” Baptism Saul of Tarsus, Acts 9:9,11; 22:16

“What Must I Do To Be Saved” Subject To Change? HEAR the gospel of Christ – Mk. 16:15; John 6:44-45; Romans 10:17. BELIEVE: The gospel (good news) of Christ – John 8:24; Mark 16:16; Acts 16:30-31. REPENT of sins – Luke 13:3-5; Acts 2:38; 17:30; Romans 2:4. CONFESS faith in Christ – Matthew 10:32-33; Romans 10:9-10. BE BAPTIZED – Mark 16:16; Acts 2:28; 22:16; Galatians 3:27; 1 Peter 3:21.

Baptism: Not Subject To Change Puts One Into Christ Galatians 3:27 “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ did put on Christ.” Adds One To Christ’s Church Acts 2:47 “praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to them day by day those that were saved.” WHO WERE SAVED? WHO WERE ADDED? Acts 2:41 “They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added (unto them) in that day about three thousand souls.”

Examples of Conversion Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:44-47 Preaching Believed Repented Confessed Baptized Saved Pentecost Acts 2:14-41 Repented 37-38 Baptized 38-41 Remission of sins 38-47 Samaria Acts 8:5-13 Believed 12 12-13 Eunuch Acts 8:35-39 36-37 Confessed 37 38 Rejoiced 39 Saul Acts 9:17-17; 22; 26 Acts 22:16; 9:18 Washed sins away Acts 22:16 Cornelius Acts 10:34-46; 11:14; 15:7 10:43; 15:7 10:48 Remission of sins 10:43 Lydia Acts 16:13 Attended 14 15 Jailor Acts 16:32 31 33 Preaching Faith Repentance Confession Baptism Salvation Rom. 10:4 Heb.11:6 Luke 13:3 Rom. 10:10 Gal. 3:16-27 2 Tim. 2:10 Hebrews 5:8-9

Conclusion: Instead of change … The inspired apostle preached, Galatians 1:6-9, “I marvel that ye are so quickly removing from him that called you in the grace of Christ unto a different gospel; which is not another (gospel) only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema. As we have said before, so say I now again, if any man preacheth unto you any gospel other than that which ye received, let him be anathema.”
