Understanding Culture

What is culture? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgXpN6ZBKIM

Bell Work, Unit 2 #2 What is cultural diversity? Do you live in a culturally diverse country?

What does your culture look like? Take 10 minutes and draw a picture of what your culture looks like!

Quick Write Turn to page 81 in your book. Review the picture on the top. Imagine you are preparing to teach your classmates about cultural diversity. Writing at least 4-5 COMPLETE sentences, answer the following questions. What culture traits do these two cultures have in common? How are they different? How does your own culture compare to the ones pictured?

Cultural Diffusion Cultures often spread around the world. It’s interesting to think about what we share with other cultures that are often incredible different from ours. How do those ideas make change? Your book uses the example of baseball and how it has been spread world wide? What “NEW” idea has been spread world wide?

Bell Work, Unit 2, #3 Write as many words as you can to describe your own culture.

Researching your culture Using the iPads, or your own personal device, research your own culture. Use the sheet provided to answer the questions about your culture.

Researching Another Culture Using your iPads or your own device, research a culture from around the world. Use the sheet provided to answer the questions about that culture.

Bell Work, Unit 2 #4 Culture is a part of what theme of geography? Culture is studied by what branch of geography?

Continue researching Continue to research the United States Culture and the culture you were assigned in class. Once you have finished researching, return the iPad and begin preparing for your presentation. Look over the rubric provided to get an idea of what is expected in your presentation. Yesterday, you researched both your culture and a culture from somewhere else in the world. Today, using the sheet provided, you will formulate a presentation for your classmates. You will need to describe the culture you researched to your classmates. You may draw, write or find videos related the culture you researched. You will have the entire class to prepare.
