MCSD Truancy Intervention Updated October 2014 MCSD Truancy Intervention Points of Court Referral At each unexcused absence or absence for unknown reason Habitual Truant @ 15 unexcused absences within 90 calendar-day period At 5 unexcused absences within calendar month OR 10 within 90 calendar days (RUN TERMS S250 EXCESSIVE ABSENCE REPORT) Principal Designee contacts parent to determine reason for absence. Board Policy requires parent to justify each absence; justification will be evaluated based on Board Policies that define Excused & Unexcused Student’s Primary Teacher shall report to Principal designee / Student Services / Truancy Intervention Team Written Notice of Concern to Parent on School Letterhead Electronic DHSMV Reporting (14up) Truancy Intervention Coordinator Notifies School Administration Truancy Intervention Coordinator & CINS Counselor determine whether Habitual Truancy Referral status will be pursued (if not already specified) via School District Truancy Court OR CINS Court Student Services / Truancy Intervention Team Review: Determine if a pattern of Non-Attendance is Developing Written Notice of Parent Conference School Letterhead CINS Case Staffing Convened Courtesy Notice to CINS School Representation Required Notice to Homeschool Contact CINS Case Management Ongoing / Dismissed Student Services / Truancy Intervention Team Meeting (may include CINS) Maintain Parent Contact + Implement & Document Truancy Interventions: RESOLVE or REFER Student Services / Truancy Intervention Team refer to CINS as Truancy Case (age 6-17) CINS Truancy Petition Filed in Circuit 16 CINS Court Required Conference Held with Parent(s) @ School Student Services / Truancy Intervention Team refer K-12 to Truancy Intervention Coordinator & Superintendent may file Truancy Petition Truancy Petition Filed by School District via Truancy Court in Circuit 16 Attendance Monitoring & Possible Court Sanctions For Non-Compliance: Parents/Students Issue Resolved
