So You Think You Found A Career... See if you can do any of these during high school: Take relevant courses during high school Job shadowing or Internships Volunteer (see our website/guidance bulletin board) Go to field related conferences (many in the summer) Talk to professionals in the field Bring Your Child to Work Day As many as 1 in 3 students do not return to college after their 1st year* 1 shadowing experience = 32% higher retention rate in college** 1 internship experience = 52% higher retention rate in college** *US News and World Report ** Vincent Tinto’s research on Retention Rates

So You Want To Go To College... According to the Chronicle of Higher Education and Higheredinfo.org 4-Year Public Colleges. PA sends 60.9 % to college right after high school PA Freshman Retention Rate (returning as sophomores) 80% According to U.S. News & World Report: PA graduates 62.9% of those students in 6 years with a Bachelors degree. (2009-2015) Those are 4 year public schools. 11th Nationally.

Post-Secondary Planning : Junior Year Retention Rates What are they? Why are they important?

www.collegeresults.org Grab your cell phones! Go to: www.collegeresults.org Choose any College/University you’ve been considering Look at: Retention Rates Graduation Rates 4 year – 5 year – 6 year

Retention Rates Academic issues: Academic issues, too expensive, Not certain about your career pathway. Academic issues: Learn how to study now Ask for help/use resources Challenge yourself academically

Retention Rates Too expensive: Attend Financial Aid events, ask questions, fill out FAFSA form. Now October is the open registration. Apply for scholarships (multiple ways) See our list of resources. Dual enrollment/Transfer credits.

Not sure about my pathway: Retention Rates Not sure about my pathway: Caution-the undeclared major can lead to spending extra time in college=more money See what supports the school offers undeclared majors “Thinking well to be wise: planning well, wiser: doing well wisest and best of all” ~Malcolm Forbes

You will probably NEED some type of post-secondary education! Planning Your Path You will probably NEED some type of post-secondary education!
