Learning in Reception at Abbey Village Welcome to our Parents Induction Meeting

Welcome This is a very special time for you and your child. I hope that this presentation will help you to become clearer about starting school.

Meet the staff Mrs. Roworth - Class teacher Mrs. Sutcliffe – Teaching Assistant Mrs. Briggs - Teaching Assistant Miss. Chorley - Teaching Assistant

What is Sunnyhurst like? Our reception class is fully integrated with Key stage 1. This makes us different to many schools. We follow 1 curriculum for all children who access learning at many different levels of ability. This is done through very careful and structured planning. Each day children will spend some time working independently (child initiated learning) and some time working with the teacher(adult led learning).

How does it work ? We carefully observe and monitor the children's learning in all curriculum areas. The children are grouped by ability for reading, writing and maths. The children are in mixed age groups for some activities to create more challenge. This means that every child is working at their full potential.

A typical day … 8.45 Come in, place bags and coats away, put reading books in reading tray, go out to play. 9.00-10.05 Session 1 A mix of child initiated and adult led learning 10.05-10.15 fruit/ milk and playtime 10.15-11.15 Session 2 A mix of child initiated and adult led learning 11.15-11.30 toast and playtime 11.30-12.30 Session 3 - Review of learning today, Daily reading workshop, Daily phonics 12.30-1.35 Lunch time 1.35-2.45 Session 4 A mix of child initiated and adult led learning 2.45-3.00 infant fruit and playtime 3.00-3.20 Assembly/Story/singing/circle time

Uniform Please ensure that names are in EVERYTHING!!! Send a coat EVERYDAY!! We do go out, even in the rain! P.E. kits stay in school. They will be sent home each half term. Reading bags in school everyday. School newsletters, diaries and any other messages will be placed in the school bag.

Other matters… After your child has settled in a reading book will come home for you to share with your child. You will be asked to record any comments in a reading record to help build up a picture of your child's reading development. Children will read with the Teacher and Teaching Assistant- please bring reading book and bag everyday.

And Finally… If you have any worries or concerns at all please come in and see me and I will do my best to help you  I am looking forward to seeing the children on their visit afternoons  Mrs. Roworth
