Language as Power in Othello View the video clip and take notes on the important points brought up in the clip. With a partner Find lines in the play (they should be consecutive lines and need not be longer than 2-3 lines (but can be if necessary) that are especially powerful. Ideas to consider when choosing lines that hold power: Do these lines spark a reaction in a character? Do the lines create a chain of events to occur? Do the lines reveal something important about a character? Their traits, flaws, plans, changes? What words in these lines seem to be especially powerful and why?

Language as Power Assignment On a piece of paper, you will write out the impactful/powerful lines you have chosen, and through the use of annotations, explain the impact of the lines and why you chose them as being especially powerful. Write neatly Model your paper after the example Show knowledge of the play in your annotations Show insight and depth of thinking in your annotations Cite the lines (Act, scene and line #s)
