Music in Czech Republic ZŠ a MŠ Břeclav, Kupkova 1

HISTORY The oldest recorded sacred song from Czech lands is the hymn „Lord, have a marcy on us", dating from the turn of 10/11th century This song was singing when the king Vaclav I. came to Prague in 1249. Another important song is „Chant of saint Vaclav“. This song was singing during coronation of new king and during the festivities. In 13.-14.century were very popular sacred songs sang in latin. „Jesus Christ Bountiful Prince“ is song from 1410, which people would sing (in czech language) during the preaching of John Huss.

Tradition music instrument Moravian traditional music is well known for the cimbalom Cimbalom is composed of a large, trapezoidal box with metal strings stretched across its top. It is a musical instrument commonly found in Hungary  Cimbalom plays in ensembles that also include double bass, clarinet and violins.  The traditional music of Moravia displays regional influences

Bedřich Smetana Bedřich Smetana- 2.3.1824Litomyšl-12.5.1884Prague The most famous composer, chapel master and teacher He started to play at violin and piano when he was 6 years old. He studied music theory and composition in Prague He was married to Kateřina Kolárová In 1884 he opened private musci school After family tragedy (3 from 4 children died) Smetana moved with his wife and one child to Stockholm  where he set up as a teacher and choirmaster in Gothenburg, and began to write large-scale orchestral works In 1859 his wife died. He got maried one more time.

Bedřich Smetana In the early 1860s, a more liberal political climate in Bohemia encouraged Smetana to return permanently to Prague His musical style became closely identified with his country's aspirations to independent statehood. In 1874 Smetana had become completely deaf, but he didnt stop compose. The songs from this period are his best.

Antonín Dvořák 8.9.1841 Nelahozeves - 1.5.1904 Prague Following Smetana's nationalist example, Dvořák frequently employed aspects of the folk music of Moravia and  Bohemia. The first public performances of his works were in Prague in 1872 Johannes Bhrams (german composer) mentionted talent of young Dvořák and helped him to edit his first book of songs.

Antonín Dvořák  In 1892, Dvořák moved to the United States and became the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America in New York City Dvořák wrote in the US his two most successful orchestral works. Music groups prohibited during comunisum period Marta Kubišová – Mír dál zůstává („Let peace stay with this country“) this song became an anthem and protestsong during Rusian comunistic ocupation of Czechoslovakia in 1868.
