Prayer Does it really work?

Answers in white from the T3 Bible Study Members… 1. What does prayer mean to you? 2. What does prayer do for you? 3. What does your prayer do for others? Formalized communication with God. We need to remember that God is all around us, but we need to find a direct contact with him. My “pipe-line” and a tool. Without it I wouldn’t have time or the means to build a relationship with God. The cry of my heart and the realization that I need Him. Relieves me and gives peace and clarity. Reminds me of my connection with God. Intentional focus on God. Reminds me that I don’t have it all together and that is ok. Strengthens people. I can stand in the gap for others (who may or may not know how to pray). Gives hope. Lets them feel connected.

Brock Gill: “Prayer Doesn’t Work”

John 14:11-14 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

After watching this video and reading the verse, do the answers to these questions begin to change a little? 1. What does prayer mean to you? 2. What does prayer do for you? 3. What does your prayer do for others?

How can you be the “work” of prayer in someone’s life this week? “Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing.”

Prayer Time! But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8

Jerusalem (home base): VCU - How can we be a witness and peace to those around us? - Pray for co-workers and those who represent VCU

Judea (next step): Richmond (and surrounding area) - How can we be a light in our community? - Pray for those who make laws, our own families, cops/firemen/ems workers, local churches

Samaria (a little bit farther): Virginia - How can we show those not in our neighborhood the love of Jesus? - Pray for those who reach the people we aren’t able to: state government, mission boards, elected officials, church governing bodies

The World (places we may not see): USA and Beyond - How can we reach people we don’t even know? - Pray for persecuted people groups, our president and his advisors, military (not just ours) and world leaders, peace
