Newborns

This baby is covered in vernix which is a greasy, white material that protects the babies skin from the amniotic fluid.

This baby has jaundice, which is a common condition in newborns This baby has jaundice, which is a common condition in newborns. The baby’s liver is not capable of breaking down bilirubin. This causes the skin to appear a yellow color

Milia occur when dead skin becomes trapped in tiny pockets near the surface of your baby's skin. When the surface of the bump wears away, the dead skin is sloughed off and the bump disappears. There is no treatment for this and it is not recommended to try to squeeze them, scrub them, etc.

Newborns generally have puffy eyes when they are born Newborns generally have puffy eyes when they are born. More than likely due to the strain and stress of being pushed through the birth canal. Medicine put in the eyes can also cause swelling.

This baby has a “cone head This baby has a “cone head.” The babies head is squeezed through the birth canal and sometimes takes this shape. The longer a mother pushes the more prominent the “cone head”
