Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) WP6: Technical update EMODnet biological portal & machine to machine connections Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ)

Overall WP6 objective Further develop and maintain the EMODnet biological portal and portal services and to make the data, metadata and data products that are created and mobilized during the project available through the biological portal. The metadata and data products available from the portal will be made available through the EMODnet central entry-point portal. By building the infrastructure on open web services, the EMODnet biology data portal allows machine-to-machine connections

Task 6.1 Development of a web portal allowing users to find, visualise and download data and data products The EMODnet Biological Data portal will further build upon the developments of the previous EMODnet portal.

Task 6.1 Development of a web portal allowing users to find, visualise and download data and data products Portal components Data search, selection and download toolbox: GIS viewer Metadata and data product catalogue Signing in and user identification User feedback and help desk Summary of the data and data products available Acceptance of additional data

Task 6.1 Portal components Data search, selection and download toolbox:

Task 6.1 Portal components GIS viewer An improved GIS to view data and data products will be available by improving the functionality of the current GIS viewer of the EMODnet biology data portal. The GIS viewer will allow to visualize & animate data and data products.

Task 6.1 Portal components Metadata and data product catalogue The metadata catalogue provides ISO 19115 and INSPIRE compliant metadata The metadata of the biological data products will contribute directly to the EMODnet Central Portal metadata data catalogue through a Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW) service

Task 6.1 Portal components Signing in and user identification To achieve minimum formality, and as few barriers as possible we opt for a data portal without formal signing in procedures. The data and metadata that are available are accessible, but users of the data will be requested to provide information on the usage of the data and are obliged to accept the terms of use of the data, i.e. that the source be cited. User feedback and help desk The EMODnet webportal will include a section to provide user feedback and guidelines on how to contribute to the project. A user feedback form and telephone number will be available that can be used for any kind of queries. The received queries will be communicated to the EMODnet secretariat. Finally, a help desk will also be available at bio@emodnet.eu, where requests will normally be answered immediately and always within two working days.

Task 6.1 Portal components Summary of the data and data products available A new page indicating summary statistics of the data content will be developed. The page will list the evolution of the datasets, metadata records and data products that are made accessible through EMODnet biology. Acceptance of additional data A dataset submission form will be available and links to EMODnet data ingestion project

Task 6.2 Develop procedures for machine-to-machine connections to data, metadata and data products EMODnet biology built on open webservices allowing the development of Application Programme Interfaces (API) OGC – services IPT SeaDataNet

Example: Webservice of gridded dataproducts to ICES through WFS Task 6.2 Develop procedures for machine-to-machine connections to data, metadata and data products Example: Webservice of gridded dataproducts to ICES through WFS http://geo.vliz.be/geoserver/Emodnetbio/wms?service=WMS&version=1.1.0&request=GetMap&layers=Emodnetbio:OOPS_products&styles=&bbox=-4.95,48.05,12.25,60.75&width=512&height=378&srs=EPSG:4326&format=application/openlayers&viewparams=scientificName:Large%20copepods;season:1;AphiaID:1080;startYearCollection:1958;endYearCollection:1967

Task 6.2 Develop procedures for machine-to-machine connections to data, metadata and data products Mapping data with: Darwin Core (Occurrence/Events/MoF) Biological ODV (Occurrence) Serving data using: IPT WFS Custom SOAP/Rest Service SeaDataNet (Donwload manager)

Deliverables D6.1: Portal operational (Month 3) D6.2: Maintenance of Portal (M3-M24)
