APHA Mission Statement “To improve the quality of public health practice and performance of public health systems.” Mission statement found: https://www.apha.org/about-apha/centers-and-programs/quality-improvement-initiatives/vision-mission-and-goals

History of code revisions First explicit statement of ethical principles inherent to public health. the graduating class of the Public Health Leadership Institute chose writing a code of ethics for public health as a group project (Leadership society involved in public health) National Association of City and County Health Officers - charted a plan American Public Health Association (APHA reviewed it) and http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1447186/

Purpose/Goals of The Code of Ethics Protect the health of the public (Individual vs Population). Right to exercise power and prevent the abuse of power. Provides a standard guide in which health institutions and practitioners can be held accountable. The code of ethics is not a straightforward do this, don't do this rules, every situation will differ and the code of ethics purpose is to provide a foundation of standard issues that should be considered in a dispute.

Interdependence Rights Trust EXPLICIT VALUES Interdependence Rights Trust Collaboration Knowledge Action Interdependence= dependence between things. Health of one member of society can affect the entire community as a whole. We rely on one another for safety and survival. Positive relationships in community leads to healthier communities. Humans have a right to the resources necessary for health Effectiveness of institutions depends on trust. Some facts that contribute to this are communication, and reliability. Collaboration= composed of wide variety of agencies and services Improving understanding of health, and sharing what is known People act on what they know and understand but it is not based solely on information. Values can affect our actions. The action required is research to fill in the gaps we do not know. PAGE 2-3 Image found at http://www.barrelny.com/our-core-values/
