Pg. 128 (Ch. XIII – Thirteen) THE BIG MOMENT Read aloud:

Finishing the plot summary: CHAPTER 13 HOLY COW WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED!? The Pritchard boy fell onto Billy’s axe. To "fall on your sword" means that you are accepting responsibility for some negative act (typically of a negligent or criminal nature). Historically in some societies military commanders would commit suicide by "falling on their sword" to maintain some honor after losing a battle. Do you think this final act ion of the Pritchard boy was a way of him accepting responsibility for this action? Do you think the author is trying to say something? Do you think that he just had it coming? Finishing the plot summary:

Ch 14: Billy goes to see his grandpa about the whole thing Details about his grandpa’s face (p. 136 – two pages into the chapter) – How are these important, or are they? Grandpa tells him about the competition. Billy is scared at first, but becomes very excited. Billy helps out around the house since he and dad will be gone and momma is expecting! Billy tells his dad that Ann is gun shy (how is that going to work in a hunting competition??) Billy also get his axe back from his grandfather - last time he saw it he never wanted to see it again – seems like he has made his peace with It by now. Plot continued:
