Presentation transcript:

Welcome to Texas History! Use your post-it notes to answer these questions: What can I expect of you as a student this year? What do you expect of me as your teacher?

Who am I? I am Miss Thompson or Miss T. I have been teaching for 10 years. This will be my 11th year, and third year in middle school—the middle school that I once attended! I have a dog named Pippi for one of my favorite literature characters. She only likes me on occasion and she drives me crazy. I love Texas History and thinking about the many famous Texans that once lived where we live today! My personal philosophy is one I’ve made my own from the great Vince Lombardi- The only place SUCCESS comes before WORK is in the dictionary.

What I did this summer…

My Goals this year---- and long-term Have fun! Explore new things Lose some weight – training for a 5k and beyond Be a better teacher Write more Save money for a vacation--- Nashville, New York, and Greece! Finish GRAD school

What I LOVE…. books Texas History Reality TV, especially “Amazing Race” and “Survivor” Writing in brand new composition books Rangers baseball and five or six other sports My friends and family Decorating and Sleeping My IPod cooking

What I DON’T LIKE… People who make excuses Dishonesty Days students are off but I have to work Pointless meetings People without follow-thru State testing The grocery store not having what I need A dirty house

Classroom Guidelines Do your work and do it well. Give respect to get respect. Be an ACTIVE participant. Ask questions.

ICU Policy Grades below 70% must be redone promptly. Assignments not turned in = automatic ICU Tutorials every Monday/Tuesday/Thursday after school. Lunches, Wednesdays, and before school upon appointment. In class tutorials and redos – 3 options You should NEVER be on the ICU document for a TX History assignment. EVER! Do your work and do it WELL!

Notebooks and Such You must have a spiral or composition book for this class that will remain in the classroom. Work should be turned in to the appropriate folder. Absent work and duplicates. Supplies Cell Phones

Hopefully We Won’t End Up Like this Class…. http://cooperativelearning.nuvvo.com/lesson/9592-seinfeld-teaches-history
