Cross Promotion Universal Studios teamed up with Entertainment One to advertise Lone Survivor all over North America to catch the attention of the Canadian and American people. They produced multiple trailers and advertised the movie on social media.
Cross Promotion They had interviews with the actors and interviewed them before the films premiere. They asked them how it felt to inspire people by acting the part of hero’s that died fighting for this country and the sacrifices they made for each other. They also interviewed Marcus Luttrell with the actors present.
Media The film was marketed through billboard posters, Youtube trailers, Instagram, Twitter, Radio stations, and TV teasers.
Merchandising The only thing that was promoted was the lone survivor foundation which sells clothing and bags, they also made a foundation to help support troops suffering from PTSD.
Honoring The loss of hero’s 11 Navy Seals lost their lives during operation red wings. The movie focuses on Marcus Luttrell, Danny Dietz, Michael Murphy, and Matthew Axelson. 3 were killed in combat. Michael Murphy sacrificed himself in order to save his team by running onto a hill in order to call for help. His actions saved Marcus Luttrell but he was shot multiple times while making the call and died on the satellite phone.
Release Strategy Lone Survivor was released on December 25, 2013. The film was released in theaters and it made a total of 154.8 billion USD in the box office. The movie was very anticipated because of the popularity of the book Lone Survivor.
Awards Lone Survivor won plenty of awards the most recognizable one was the screen actors guild award for outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a motion picture. Unfortunately the movie was nominated for two Oscars but did not win any.
Home Exhibition The movie was released on December 25, 2013. The movie was released in theaters and a few months later was available for purchase online. The film did not release in other countries until a few weeks after its initial release in the United States.
