Lone Survivor 2013

Production Some of the Lone Survivor producers were Mark Wahlberg, Peter Berg, and Akiva Goldsman. The film was distributed by Universal Studios and Entertainment One. The director of the film was Peter Berg.

Distribution Process The Movie was based on the book Lone survivor. The biggest factor in the distribution process was to let the audience understand that the movie was based on a true story and that the author witnessed the action first hand.

Distribution Process When Mark Wahlberg was interviewed he stated that the most important factor in the production of this film was to make it as realistic as possible, and to show the audience what Marcus Luttrell (The author) and his team were up against during operation Red Wings.

Distribution Process With the idea of making the film look realistic the actors had special forces including Marcus Luttrell show them how special forces trained. They even used live rounds while filming to make the gunfire as realistic as possible.

Distribution Process Universal made certain that the trailer would get the attention of everyone. The beginning of the trailer mentioned that the movie was a true story, it showed emotion and clips that wouldn’t give away too much of the plot and would have people anxious wanting to see more!

Distribution Process One of the biggest advantages in the distribution was that they used big actors which would intrigue their fans to watch their film. For example Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster, and Eric Bana. Who doesn’t like Mark Wahlbergs movies!

Cross Promotion Universal Studios teamed up with Entertainment One to advertise Lone Survivor all over North America to catch the attention of the Canadian and American people. They produced multiple trailers and advertised the movie on social media.

Cross Promotion They had interviews with the actors and interviewed them before the films premiere. They asked them how it felt to inspire people by acting the part of hero’s that died fighting for this country and the sacrifices they made for each other. They also interviewed Marcus Luttrell with the actors present.

Media The film was marketed through billboard posters, Youtube trailers, Instagram, Twitter, Radio stations, and TV teasers.

Merchandising The only thing that was promoted was the lone survivor foundation which sells clothing and bags, they also made a foundation to help support troops suffering from PTSD.

Honoring The loss of hero’s 11 Navy Seals lost their lives during operation red wings. The movie focuses on Marcus Luttrell, Danny Dietz, Michael Murphy, and Matthew Axelson. 3 were killed in combat. Michael Murphy sacrificed himself in order to save his team by running onto a hill in order to call for help. His actions saved Marcus Luttrell but he was shot multiple times while making the call and died on the satellite phone.

Release Strategy Lone Survivor was released on December 25, 2013. The film was released in theaters and it made a total of 154.8 billion USD in the box office. The movie was very anticipated because of the popularity of the book Lone Survivor.

Awards Lone Survivor won plenty of awards the most recognizable one was the screen actors guild award for outstanding action performance by a stunt ensemble in a motion picture. Unfortunately the movie was nominated for two Oscars but did not win any.

Home Exhibition The movie was released on December 25, 2013. The movie was released in theaters and a few months later was available for purchase online. The film did not release in other countries until a few weeks after its initial release in the United States.
