Crisis intervention Protocol By:stephanie hijazi CCAP Crisis intervention Protocol By:stephanie hijazi

Overview of site and the types of crisis situations that this agency handles with the population they serve. CCAP stands for the Congregational Community Action Project. They are a faith based, nonprofit organization, that help those in need. Churches, businesses, and private individuals provide all funds. Available to residents of Winchester, VA and surrounding counties. Services provided to low income families and homeless population. The lack of necessities leads to a crisis state. They provide are a food pantry, clothing, financial aid and shelter for the homeless.

What are the steps/protocol for this crisis intervention (i. e What are the steps/protocol for this crisis intervention (i.e. how things are done, chain of command, what kind of follow up if any, exists)? No crisis intervention protocol manual. No “typical client.” Steps to obtaining services: Sign In Meet with Interviewer Go to each and/or all departments (food, clothing, financial or shelter). Receive goods. The director Fran deals with services that are not provided and then makes referrals. Large group of volunteers will also assist in the event of a large scale need, ie: natural disaster

Is this consistent with what you are learning in the textbook for class? If not, how does it differ? Crisis Intervention Protocol Steps CCAP Protocol Steps Immediacy-the intervention begins as soon as the helping party and the party in need meet. Control –the intervener provides needed structure. Assessment- is made to determine the quickest, most effective way to help client. Disposition- Helps the person set up and utilize any resources they may have. Referral- Any other problems that can’t be solved by an agency are then referred to others that can help. Follow up- Checks on the progress to see if any additional services or referrals are needed. Serves people the day they come in. Interviewers meet with client and registers them and keeps record of visit. Assessment is made, client is directed to the correct department. Provides services to clients to help them utilize their resources, ie: giving rides or providing bus fare to and from work. The client is referred mainly to local churches for extended help. Doesn’t provide follow up services.

Discuss the crisis intervention protocol that current literature supports with this particular setting/population. Is it in line with your volunteer agency’s current crisis procedures? Counseling and crisis intervention are different. CCAP focuses on managing the immediate need(crisis). Albert Roberts describes each crisis situation as having certain components which include A traumatic event Vulnerable state Precipitating factor Active crisis state, based on persons perception Resolution All people who seek services from CCAP have experienced these events. Regardless of situation, they seek to help and provides intervention to those in need. In correlation with the current research.
