Anteroposterior and lateral radiographs of a 43-year-old man status post anterior lumbar interbody fusion with cage and plate construct. Although this particular threaded, lumbar-tapered interbody cage can be used quite successfully (>95% fusion rate) as a stand-alone device, when the vascular anatomy permits and cage fixation is suboptimal, a plate can be added to further secure the construct.
