Parts of Speech Review

9/5 A part of speech (PoS ) is a category of words which have similar grammatical properties. Words that are assigned to the same part of speech generally display similar behavior in sentences.

Parts of Speech, Part 1, 1-4 1. A person, place, thing, or idea is a noun. 2. A word that takes the place of a noun, a group of words acting as a noun, or a pronoun is a pronoun. 3. A verb is a word that expresses action or a state of being and is necessary for a statement. 4. A word that modifies a noun or pronoun by limiting its meaning is a(n) adjective.

Parts of Speech, Part 1, 5-8 5. Adverbs modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. 6. A preposition shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to some other word in a sentence. List 3 examples. 1. Next, 2. Into, 3. Above 7. “And,” “but,” “or,” “nor,” “for,” “so,” and “yet” are examples of conjunctions. 8. An interjection is a word that expresses emotion or exclamation.
