Production deployment automation A "Deploy Folder" wizard guides developers through a step-by-step process for moving folders from development to production. It automatically handles dependency issues such as database connections, FTP connections, log file directories, etc. - even across operating system platforms. Underlying technology helps developers connect to more than one repository and share objects between Development, Test, and Production repositories to speed up the deployment process. Flat file acceleration A new FTP integration feature helps users set up FTP parameters for flat files. These can be staged before the transformation process or streamed through the transformation engine to enhance remote file processing. Business Component Framework (BCF) Delivering enterprise-class extensibility to PowerCenter users, the Business Component Framework allows customers, partners and other complementary software providers to create source-extraction mapping templates that make it easier and faster to include ERP and analytic applications as part of an enterprise decision support solution. Advanced session management To help administrators maintain operational efficiency, PowerMart 4.6 permits session re-use across multiple source files and automatic target table truncation prior to loading. It also supports session log file archival with date and time stamps, along with administration of e-mail notifications of session statistics. Multi-level security In addition to standard group- and user-level security techniques, PowerMart 4.6 now lets administrators set up object-level security on objects such as repositories, folders and mappings; operational-level security such as read, write and execute permissions on objects; and stop-start permissions on servers. Fault-tolerant recovery In the event a hardware or power failure occurs during a load session, a 'Perform Recovery' feature enables incremental load and recovery once the system is up again. This helps administrators recover from critical failures within a limited timeframe. Session creation A simplified session wizard with "Beginner" and "Advanced" options walks novices and experienced users step-by-step through creating a transformation session. New browser functionality Ordering and sorting functionality in the Repository Manager lets users create customized views of metadata relationships and dependencies. Also, a new Transformation Browser lets users view external transformations as an aid to importing them into the Designer.

PowerMart 장점 Delivering an open, scalable solution that addresses the complete life cycle for data mart and anlytic development, production, and ongoing management. Able to source large volumes of fast changing data from multiple platforms, handle complex transformations, and support high-speed loads. Designing easily complex source to target mapping based on GUI by data warehouse administrators.

PowerMart의 개선점 PowerMart currently has some restrictions handling unstructured text-file data sources. Its source control could be more efficient, making it easier to move repository changes across unconnected networks PowerMart could improve its flexibility with global variables.

Although PowerMart captures meta data throughout the extraction and transformation phases, it does not yet have the capability to network together multiple data marts to form an enterprise view of data. Documentation was not addressing the transition thoroughly. Performance tuning was also an issue in the early stages of the project. Speed can always be improved.
