Who was this mighty angel? Many think it was Jesus Christ Exodus 40 v 34 – the glory of The Lord Psalm 104 v 3 – clouds His chariot Revelation 1 v 7 – comes with the clouds Matthew 24 v 30 – darkness and then He comes in the clouds with great glory. Also the sign of the Son of Man – a rainbow? Matthew 24 v 27 – like lightning: visible to all Psalm 89 v 1 & 2, also v 8 & 33 – covenantal God Revelation 4 v 3 – rainbow: the covenantal sign Revelation 1 v 16 – countenance like the sun

Who was the mighty angel? Revelation 1 v 15 – Feet like burnished bronze as though they had been burned in a fire So! Lots of symbolism suggesting Jesus! However, this is not an exact fit: God’s word is always an exact fit. Another mighty angel Allos not heteros Revelation chapter 5 v 2 – the strong angel is the same Greek word This is another of the same kind

Who was the mighty angel? Also in verse 5 he raises his right hand: a sign that he is swearing an oath to a higher power and to someone who lives forever and ever. Therefore not an Jesus, but a very special angel who carried the glory of Jesus Gabriel is a contender – Strength of God Michael an even better contender – ‘Who is like God’ Disputed with Satan over the body of Moses – Jude 9 Comes to assist the angel: a chief prince – Daniel 10 v 13 Also chapter 12 v 1 – A champion of Israel Revelation 12 v 1 Michael V the Dragon

Control, command and seven thunders Absolute control of land and sea Ownership – taking back what is His Declaring it as a roaring lion Job 4 v 9 & 10 God’s blast breaks the roar and the teeth of lions Isaiah 31 v 4 & 5 – roaring when defending Israel Hosea 5 v 14 – like a lion in His judgement Also Chapter 11 v 10 Amos 3 v 8 – probably a direct application Keeping the thunders a secret seems counter intuitive

Control, command and the seven thunders The purpose of Revelation is usually to ‘reveal’ Revelation 22 v 10 reverts to “seal not up the prophecy” Daniel 12 appears to be speaking of the same time and had the same instruction Possibly because of the terrible suffering of God’s people Possibly because of the great devastation of the earth The angel takes charge of earth and sea Swears by Jesus: Hebrews 6 v 13 Jesus swears by Hmself, as there was no one greater And says “no more time/delay”

All that was prophesied would be finished Finally The head of Satan crushed Death vanquished Heaven and Earth filled with righteousness The prophetic message of all the feasts fulfilled Satan bound No more pain or sorrow This has to be no more delay rather than no more time, as the process of finalising all that the prophets spoke takes some time – at least 3.5 years

All that was prophesied would be finished Verse 7 – the mystery of God will be finished Teleo – completed, executed, discharged Rev 15 v 1 & 8 uses the same word This is the run-up to the completion of all prophecy The answer to the question, “Why do the righteous suffer and the wicked prosper?” (Psalm 73) Psalm 11 v 6 seems to say the opposite, yet it is our experience that the wicked seem to prosper. Job 21 v 7 and following is on the same topic

Eating the scroll He eats the scroll This illustrates a previous revelation – Ezekiel 2 v 9 – 3 v 3 Demands a response Carries a powerful responsibility Sweet because it is the word of God coming to pass Salvific for those who respond Glorifies and magnifies Him Shows he is faithful and true Bitter because of the devastation that follows
