Michael Matheson’s Career Path How to become an ARCHERY INSTRUCTOR
My Career Goals I want to become an Archery INSTRUCTOR by 2025 To get there, I will need to: Graduate high school by June 2019 Between 2019 and 2025 Compete in BC summer games(2020) Compete in the Olympics (2024) Take woodworking and industrial design courses to make the bows Business courses as I will be selling bows
What is an Archery Instructor? An Archery Instructor is someone who helps others get better at archery. I would regularly help people work on their form at this job I would be setting up equipment I would be preparing for a practice I would keep up to date with competitions
About my future career This career is done at an archery range $50,681 yearly or 26 dollars an hour an instructor would work about 40 hours a week; some of these hours would be evenings and weekends I would also be making $ 20,000 a year on bows that I make and sell
My job has a 1 % chance of becoming automated Reason 1:YouTube can not teach people with the understandings that humans have Reason 2: Robots can’t give feedback Reason 3: bows have to be hand crafted
Archery instructor would be great for me because… I already have these skills for this career: Being able to give advice for the form
I am not quite ready for this career, but I will get there! These are skills for the job I still need to learn: This is how I will get those necessary skills: Focusing on the task at hand Don’t get distracted Wood working School Industrial design Business
This is what appeals to me with this career… I love the sport of archery I can practice my own archery when I teach I want to make bows I could get sponsors for being a great shooter and get funds on equipment and travel for competitions
These are some things I find less appealing about this career… Training – takes lots of time and some of that time I would rather be making bows Paper work – way to much of it
Potential obstacles to getting this career The possible obstacles: My plan to overcome them: manage my time better Time management such as schooling Try to find a school that offers programs for archery Not to many schools offer programs for archery
Potential obstacles to being successful within this career The possible obstacles: Injuries Any minor injuries to the hands or arms would prevent you from shooting for example “ bow bite “ is a large purple / blue / green bruise of the forearm caused by the slap of the bow string on unprotected Skin My plan to overcome them: Don’t over do it Do not put yourself in to risky situations if injured wait until healed until you shoot Again to prevent aggravation

BCIT Burnaby BC In the carpentry / joinery / woodworking program
