Preparation for Upgrade 10/1/2012

AYSO Referee Certification and Training Requirements Intermediate Advanced National Minimum Age 14 16 18 (with one Year in Grade as an Advanced referee) Minimum Game Counts (cumulative) 25 as referee: 5 in U-12 50 as referee: 10 in U-14, 5 as AR in U-14 100 as referee: 30 in U-16/19 with 15 in U-19, 25 as AR in U-19 Training Course Intermediate Referee Advanced Referee National Referee Law Test Assessment/ Observation Observation Assessments in U-14: 1 as Referee, 1 as AR Assessments in U-16/19: 2 as Referee, Fitness Test None Yes Service Units* Five Five additional Indicate to students that this material is available as a handout 10/1/2012 * Service units may be waived for youth referees.

Preparation for Assessment Prior to Game Arrive early; Give your pre-game; Inspect field, ball and players During game Relax; Referee your own game; Work with your AR’s; Correct any errors and Be close to play; Demonstrate fitness; Anticipate play After game Get refreshed; Listen to the Assessor’s comments; Ask questions of the Assessor; Get paperwork signed 10/1/2012

Post Assessment Review Upgrade form. Remember: you are responsible for keeping your own record. When all requirements are met and the Observation or Assessment is completed: Retain a copy of your record Give copy to the appropriate approving authority Follow up with approving authority Confirm upgrade with your records on eAYSO.org. 10/1/2012

Conclusion Upgrades are important to the individual and the Organization. Observations and service assessments will provide the highest potential for success.
