Nine people were shot and killed including senior pastor and state senator Clementa C. Pinckney.

Purpose The speech Obama delivered has many purposes behind it. Reassure Charleston citizens Address families of victims Honor Senator Pinckney Assure Church’s restoration Touch on the fact of racial issues in today’s world Touch on gun laws

Rhetoric Strategies Repetition of words such as “Faith”, “God”, “Life” provide a positive or uplifting tone to the speech while words such as “Tragedy” , “Murder”, and “Violence” provide a darker tone, much like that of the event it self. Effectiveness Was his speech Successful? Obama’s Eulogy was very effective in my opinion and was just as effective. Brought people of Charleston closer Removed confederate flag Honored Senator Pinckney
