Laduvane is set on a big Bulgarian holiday- Vasiljovden, Lazarovden, Gergiovdan, Enjovden. The name Laduvane comes from the chorus of a sound and it is repeated all the time. “Oh lado,lado.”- “Oh, little girl, little girl.”

Laduvane is a common prediction for marriage Laduvane is a common prediction for marriage. The night before the holiday the bride brings water from a well in a brand new white Caldron. On Their way back they have to be silent and the water they collected is called silent water

In the caldron they put branches of Geranium, Ivy, Basil, flowers, seeds of Barley and fastened together with a ring or a bracelet or an Earring. Each girl puts a different object of her own just to recognize her branches after this. Then the caldron is covered with a white cloth. It is then let over night under a Rose Bush under a starry sky.

People believe that it will posses magic power to foresee the future of their life. For example, it may tell who they will marry. In the morning the brides gather around the caldron and the youngest girl will take out the branches from the water one by one.

All the other girls sing short songs called, Ladanki- Fortune telling where the girl would marry, near or far away, for happiness and marriage, shall each one be happy, shall each one be rich!!!

SONGS: These songs: fortune tellers are about to fulfill the hopes of their happy life of their future. These songs are of great variety, based on the riddles and showed a great sense of humor and the chorus was repeated all the time. At the end of the ritual the girls kicked the caldron to spill the water. Then they took some seeds of Barley, take them to their houses and put them under their pillows. Then they sleep and dream about their future husband.
