Michael zur Muehlen Who I am: NYC-metro based academic with German roots What I do: “I draw boxes and arrows” Associate Dean of Stevens School of Business (950 graduate students, 9 programs, 45 faculty) Advise industry and government on process innovation Where I work: Stevens Institute of Technology is one of the oldest technology-focused universities in the US (1870). Stevens is located in Hoboken NJ, across the Hudson river from Manhattan and approx. 15 minutes from Wall Street.

Why I’m here We’ve modeled processes for a long time – what progress have we made? We’ve taught process modeling to lots of people – to what effect? Much interesting stuff is going on outside the “core” BPM academic scene – what can we learn, leverage, adopt?

“Maps work by serving interests” Wood, D. The Power of Maps “Maps work by serving interests” Wood, D. The Power of Maps. Guilford, N.Y. 1992. “A map or other representational device is a piece of craftwork, crafted in the interest of making something visible. Things are made visible so that they can be seen, talked about, and potentially, manipulated.” Suchman, L. Making work visible. CACM 38 (1995) 9, pp. 56-64
