Theme Many reform movements were made during this time period. The need for them was brought about by the bad economic situation that the agricultural industry was in. a third party called the “Populist” party was formed and ultimately brought about the changes that were needed. Many other types of reforms were also made during this time (womens rights, temperance, ect.)

The Populist party was also know a the Peoples party, because supporters were average people like farmers and factory workers.

The political cartoon shows inflation that was caused during the time when reforms were needed.

5 major points Reform movements started with agriculture. A third party was formed for the farmers and factory workers, and although it didn’t win any elections, it did have an influence on politics. Deflation was a big problem in agriculture, and people demanded free silver.

(continued) The American Socialist Party wanted radical reforms in politics an in society Women worked for suffrage and for prohibition. Both were eventually reached even though prohibition did not last.
