Reflections on CARIN Funding is #1 issue in CARIN Financial capability is limited. Research capacity is also limited. “Voluntary” requires financial capability Leadership/Motivation Too much reliance on individual interests Incentives Alignment to regional priorities, e.g. Uz Lack of regional priorities of int’l agencies and organizations

Suggestion Projects  Programs e.g. WEF Nexus in Dryland Ecosystems – An initiative of Asia Hub and Water Hub of Central Asia - ADB and CA One way to revitalize CARIN – A problem-based approach that links to national priority

Uzbekistan priorities for LCLUC Land degradation Soil salinity assessment by RS and GIS tools Soil quality and soil erosion study Land use and land cover change monitoring Crop yield estimation and forecasting Agricultural crop fire Forestry inventory and monitoring Surface water quality and quantity Ground water quality and quantity mapping and modeling Data gathering and archive Educational and training of young specialists

Upcoming Effort: Kazakhstan

This may wake up CARIN! Thank you for attention
