Kealakekua Bay What am I? Alika Submarine Landslide Kealakekua Bay is located on the West, or ‘Kona’ coast of the big island of Hawaii. Light can’t travel very far through water, so to ‘see’ the bottom, the images here were made using sound, or sonar technology. What do you see in the images? 600m Deep Seafloor Adjacent Kealakekua Bay How deep am I? 9000m Alika is among the largest submarine landslides in the world, and would have created a tsunami! ~9000m ~2800m Seamounts are underwater mountains or volcanoes. Alika Submarine Landslide > 13,ooo years old, 4000 km2 Dana Seamount
