Functions of the Skeleton There are 3 main functions of the skeleton. Protection Movement Support
Leg Arm
Joints & Movement A joint is a place where two or more bones meet. Hinge joint – this allows flexion and extension at the joint e.g. the elbow and knee.
Joints and Movement Ball and socket Joint – The head of the long bone is shaped like a ball and fits into a socket, which is shaped like a cup e.g. shoulder joint. The three main movements are rotation, abduction and adduction. Flexion and extension are also possible.
