LIFESPAN 1540-1596 He died of dysentery when he was about fifty-five! Before he died he asked his crew to be dressed in his full amour. He was buried at sea in a lead coffin, near Portobello.

What country did he sail for? He sailed for England

Why did he go on his voyage? Queen Elizabeth paid him to go around the world before the Spanish. He was well known for his skill as a pirate, and that is why Elizabeth privately hired him on trips with Sir John Hawkins to raid Spanish ships in the New World.

What parts of the world did he discover? He named a region New Albion and took possession of it in the name of queen Elizabeth the first.

What was the result of his voyage? He discovered that Tierra del Fuego, to the south of the Straits of Magellan, with not part of the southern . He also discovered that Java wasn’t part of the southern continent that was thought to be an island.

How did his voyage influence the world? Drake's around the world voyage made him a national hero He was considered one of England's best explorers.

Fun Facts! His last voyage was in 1596 He was the first English man to circumnavigate the world! Queen Elizabeth was so happy she knighted drake on his ship! He first went on sea when he was 12 or 13! He was the eldest of 12 sons!
