The Theory of Evolution
How Natural Selection Happens. How Natural Selection Works How does the “fittest” organism happen?
So what does evolution mean? Well, The Book Says:
Predation. Species Interaction Predator Prey Predation When an individual captures, kills and consumes another individual prey. Prey – The individual.

Adaptation and Variation Organisms face environmental challenges that limits their ability to survive. Example: severe weather Famine Competition for food.

Presentation transcript:

Adaptation- An inherited trait that increases an organisms chance of surviving and reproducing. Random mutations lead to variation. The organisms with the traits that are better suited for the environment will survive and pass on their traits.

Camouflage- the means by which animals escape the notice of predators or prey usually because their resemblance to the environment.

Mimicry- the close external resemblance of an animal or plant (or part of one) to another animal, plant, or inanimate object. This reduces the vulnerability of the organism to be preyed upon.

Which one is venomous? King Snake Coral Snake (venomous) A relatively harmless organism may look like an organism that lives in the same environment that is venomous. A predator will mistake it for its deadly twin.

Which one tastes bad?
