Definition of computer information Computer Information is the use of computer, networks, and computer languages It is also used to solve real database problems within an organization

What is Nursing Informatics? Nursing Informatics is the use of computer technology in all nursing endeavours It is used to identify, manage, communicate data information, and gain wisdom in nursing practice.

Forces that drive the grater use of informatics Provide Higher health care quality for individuals Cost- efficient care using electronic information among health care providers, and patients Promote nationwide adoption of EHRs and personal health records Protecting privacy and security of patients information It enables health care providers to organize patients information on a daily basis and will be easy to access

Benefits Informatics would have on senior nurses Manage responsibilities Less man power used on a daily Senior nurses would spend less time demonstrating health care practices New RNs can revise senior nurses documentations to gain knowledge To better coordinate care across the continuum

Drawbacks of Informatics Expenses Generating more income to pay for health care system, cost of living would be higher Requires time to adapt fast Hospital staff has to keep up with such changes due to technology constantly evolving Over dependency on technology When a Department is down others are affected, it will cause a delay in hospital procedures Susceptibility to Network hackers It is easy for hackers to obtain health care information therefore it is vulnerable

Conclusion Nursing informatics provides the solution to many of the challenges that health care is facing, from easing the strain from nursing shortage to improving patient safety. Nurses of all ages (Senior nurses) must embrace technology and integrate it into their nursing practice therefore senior nurses should take up the challenge to use computer technology which would lead to informatics.

Would you take the challenge up? YES!
