What advantages does “being on the edge of Europe” give to Industry? Latvia – trade point between Russia and EU Norway – shore & oil fields, tourism (rural) Italy – tourism Turkey – tourism, solar panels feasible due to position in EU, trading point between EU and Asia All – proximity to resources (Latvia – wood, Italy – coal & wool, Norway & Shetland– oil & fishing grounds, Turkey – textile raw materials) e.g. In Shetland being “the most northerly” in Britain is often used as a “selling point”- Frankies – Britain’s most northerly Fish & Chip shop
