Aplikasi Multimedia 2 untuk Penerjemahan Teknologi Dubbing Iwan Sonjaya, MT

Subjects that Preferred Subtitling Response to Dubbed Media “it made me physically upset” Response to Subtitled Media “I liked it better in its original language, just how it should be”

Subjects that Preferred Dubbing Response to Subtitled Media “the subtitles were so broken that watching this would pain me”

Subjects with no Preference Response to Dubbed Media “The dubbing made it easier to understand” Response to Subtitled Media “the voices seemed more natural in the language they were originally made in”

Dubbingisthe post-production processofrecordingand replacingvoiceson media such as movies,TVshows,or interviews. The voicesof the actors shown on the screen are replacedbythoseof different actors who translate the original audio intoa different language.

Dubbinglocalizesmaterial to a foreignmarket usinga voice artistor voice actor. The actors who record often aren’t famous and generallyremain unknown, with few exceptions. In some cases, actors develop a fan base when they continuouslydub the same characters oractors.

Aftera movie iswrappedand moves topost-production,it istimeto localize.Translators who residein- territorycreate a translation, which is then conformed so the words fit better with the actor’s lipmovements. Next, voice-over actors are cast with sensitivityto matchingcharacteristics ofthe originalactor’svoiceto maintain the originalintegrity.

Inone method of recording, actors read from a scriptwhile watching thevideo and wait for a beep toindicatethat theirlineiscomingup.Another techniqueis"rythmo band" where the movie playsand linesof dialoguescroll acrossthe bottom of the screen, stretchingand compressingindifferent places, indicatinghow totime words with the character's mouth.

To finishthe process, once the foreignactors'voices are recorded, sound editorsfinetunethe foreignlip- synched.Soundmixers thenblendthe dialogue with the M&E so that everything syncsperfectly.

UN-StyleVoice-Over is a style typically seen in interview footage and every time speakers/actors are on-screen when lip sync would be too costly and the original voice needs tobe heard. In this style, the speaker is heard in his orher native tongue. Then, after a few seconds, their audio level drops and an voice-over talent begins narrating with thetranslation. Since the original native language is still audible, the authenticity is experienced by theviewer.

LipSyncDubbing replaces the originaldialogue with translated audio. The original audio track cannot be heard, and when watching the movie, itappears as ifthe actor was originallyspeaking the translated language.

InVoiceReplacement, the foreignvoice is timed to start and endwiththe original voice, but itisnot frame accurate. Additionally, the translations are not synchronizedwith the on-screen actor’s lipmovements. This typeof dubbing is commonlyused for corporate, eLearning, and informational videos.
