BSA Contingent to the 2019 WSJ Logo tbd 2019 World Scout Jamboree BSA Contingent to the 2019 WSJ Logo tbd We are excited that Scouts Canada, the Asociación de Scouts de México, and the Boy Scouts of America are co-hosting the 2019 WSJ.

Guidelines on Allocations 2019 WSJ Guidelines on Allocations Guidelines for a WSJ are that no contingent (youth, unit leaders and IST – International Service Team, what we in the BSA refer to as staff) is allotted more than 10% of the expected attendance. For example, a WSJ expected 40,000 people, no national Scout organization (NSO) would be permitted to bring more than 4,000 people (youth, unit leaders and IST).   As the host for a WSJ, the guidelines state that no more than 20% of the expected attendance may attend.

International Department and the 2019 WSJ Host Team The International Department will bring the BSA Contingent (youth, unit leaders and IST) to the 2019 WSJ, as we have done since the 2011 WSJ in Sweden. The 2019 WSJ Host Team is a separate department at the National Service Center from the International Department. The 2019 WSJ Host Team is led by Executive Director Marty Walsh. Marty and his team are organizing the host duties for the 2019 WSJ. It is up to this team to determine the event price, allocations for the host countries of the US, Mexico and Canada and the footprint on the Summit property of WSJ specific programs.

2019 WSJ Event Price If you think of a BSA NSJ, the Summit publishes a price to attend and then each council produces a budget to include giveaway items, transportation requirements, etc. to then publish a council specific price to attend the NSJ. The International Department will do the same thing for the 2019 WSJ. The 2019 WSJ Host Team will publish a price to attend, then we will produce a budget to include the expenses we will have bringing our contingent to the WSJ. Just trying to be clear that the event price that the 2019 WSJ Host team will publish will not be the price for a member of the BSA to attend.

Allocations for the BSA 2019 WSJ Allocations for the BSA We know the allocation limits for all the other NSOs, but defining how many can attend from the BSA, Scouts Mexico, and Scouts Canada still needs to be provided to us from the 2019 WSJ Host Team. A WSJ is not meant to be heavily attended by a host, that’s why it is called a WSJ. Granted, Scouts Mexico’s entire membership is only 40,000 and Scouts Canada’s entire membership is only 100,000 but we are in agreement with our co-hosts that we are equally hosting this event. The allocations to Mexico and Canada will be smaller due to the number of people they realistically expect to attend. We have not been given a number yet for the BSA but I expect an allocation of about 6,000 (to include youth, unit leaders and IST). This is three times the contingent size that historically attends a WSJ, but we expect a greater interest due to the event being held at the Summit, which would have a lower fee than a traditional WSJ that we fly to another continent.   As registrations come in, if the contingent sizes of Mexico and Canada are smaller than expected, the BSA could potentially receive an increased allocation.

Priority for BSA registrations 2019 WSJ Priority for BSA registrations The priority for registrations will go to youth ages 14 – not yet 18. This is their only WSJ to attend as a youth.

2019 WSJ Who can attend? Only members of the BSA are permitted to attend. As the Learning for Life program is not part of the BSA, Explorers are only permitted to attend the WSJ if they also register as a Boy Scout or Venturer.
