Empowering Enterprise

About Us Our ethos is to strengthen communities through enterprise, education and employment. In February 2001, we started as the Asian Business Federation (ABF) with a strong focus in mind to work with hard to reach groups and help them realise their potential through tailored, bespoke and meaningful support around the following: Enterprise Development Employment Support Youth Engagement Education Partnership Community Cohesion Diversity & Inclusion

What is an Enterprise? While an enterprise can be a business, not all businesses are enterprises………

Starting the Journey What emotions do you go through? Why do you want to start up? What is your specific idea? Is there a gap in the market? Do you know your competitors? Why your offer?

What do you Want?

Or is it?

What Attributes do you Need to Run an Enterprise?

Personal Attributes Self Reliance? Planning Skills? Knowledgeable? Practical? Money Motivated? Any More?? Why??

Different Types of Enterprises Sole Trader A self employed individual with no special legal structure – personally responsible for business debts Partnership 2 or more self employed individuals working together – jointly/severally liable for partnership debts Limited Company A separate legal entity, distinct from shareholders, directors and employees Limited Liability Partnership Has the flexibilities of a partnership but with limited liability Community Interest Company An effective limited company structure for social enterprises with secure ‘asset lock’ and focus on community benefit

Plan a Motoring Holiday to France Make a list of the things you need to do in order to have a successful trip to France by car this weekend. Time allowed 5 mins

Why do you Need a Business Plan? Demonstrates your commitment Feasibility of your idea Validated research Gives you direction Highlights required actions Valuable point of reference as the enterprise progresses You may wish to share your business vision with a third party i.e. Bank

Questions to Help you Formulate your Business Plan WHO – are you & what is your background? WHAT – type of enterprise is it? WHERE – do you think your market is? WHEN – do you intend to start? WHY – will people buy from you? HOW – will you make things happen?
