Play School Play school in Ireland is the childs first step in education. Children start play school at the age of 3. Children generally go to play school for 1-2 years.

Primary School Children attend primary school at the age of 4. The primary school cycle is 8 years long. The average day in primary school is 5 hours and 40 minutes. There are many different primary schools and some just speak in the Irish language. Here they learn English, Irish and Maths and do many other activities.

Secondary School In ireland secondary school starts at the age of 12. And lasts five to six years. Many pupils follow up this education by going to college and studying various courses.

Junior Certificate The Junior Certificate is a state exam that all students take. Students typically take 9 to 11 subjects.

Leaving Certificate The Leaving Cerftificate is another state exam, they do this exam at age 16 - 20. Students typically take 6-8 subjects. Students can get up to 625 points, they would need these points to get into college.

Our school Carrigaline Community School It was founded in 1981. Our school have recently extended because the population is growing every year. We have over 1,000 students in our school. Our school has about 80 teachers.

Uniform We wear a uniform in our school. Wine jumper, grey trousers or skirt, blue shirt, wine, blue and white tie and black shoes.

School Activities Our school has many after-school activities such as sports, music, photography, hiking, drama and volunteer work. Our school produces a musical or a talent show each year. Fame

Irish Sports

The G.A.A.- Gaelic Athletic Association The Gaelic Athletic Association is an amateur sporting organisation (founded in 1884) that involves the sports of Hurling and Gaelic Football. The GAA is played by all ages from u6’s to senior (adult).

HURLING Hurling is the fastest game on grass. It is played with hurleys (made out of wood called ash), a leather ball called a sliotar and all players must wear helmets. Camogie is the female version of Hurling with a few different rules.

Hurling teams and Gaelic Football teams, line out with 15 players each, and up to 5 substitutions can be made during a game.
