Reading Reading records will be going out on Friday 15th September. The children will need their reading record in school everyday for guided reading and individual reading.

Reading Children will need to read to an adult at least 3 times a week at home and have their reading records filled in. They should also read independently and fill in the pages they have read. Please write a comment and sign the reading record when you hear your child read.

Learning Logs They will go out on a Friday and will be due in on a Friday 2 weeks later. A list of dates will be in the front of your child’s learning log. Please do not feel you have to spend hours on the learning logs. They should be child led and they should do whatever they are capable of.

How we Teach Spelling in School Children will receive spelling lessons either as part of their Literacy lessons or as stand alone sessions. We focus on teaching children about the rules and patterns that apply to the majority of the English language (85% of spelling in English is predictable). Children are given time during the school day to practise and apply the rules and patterns they have learnt during their spelling sessions. In addition there is a list of statutory words that we will be teaching the children. These will appear on the bottom of their homework. Spelling homework is being reviewed

Maths Home learning Children will be set maths tasks each Friday through Mathletics. The tasks will generally link to the topic that has been studied that week. The children will bring home a set of key facts each half term. On these sheets there will be hints and tips about how you can help you child to learn them.

Independence Moving to Year 3 is a chance for child to become more independent. Please encourage your child to pack their own bag and organise themselves for school. Please note that adults are not able to be in the cloak rooms due to health and safety. If your child needs any help they may ask one of the adults.

Chirdrens hair to be tied back if long enough to do so If they have earrings in they need to be covered at all times

Going home If you wish your child to walk home or to the gates either unaccompanied or with a sibling please can you let us know in writing.

Volunteers If you are able to help with either the library or to listen to readers, or in any other way, please let us know.

Queries If you would like to speak to either of us regarding your child please call the school or speak to us at the end of the day to arrange a mutually convenient time.

Any Questions?
