Starter Components in computer systems may be classed as one of the following: Input Output Storage Processing Find the Starter Activity on the RLP and complete

Learning Objectives Define a computer system Know that a computer is made up of different components Be able to identify and explain different input and output devices Create or alter a device to help benefit yours or someone else’s life.

Model of a computer system Input CPU (Processing) Output Storage A computer system is made up of hardware and software. Hardware is any physical component that makes up the computer. Software is any program that runs on the computer.

Are the following inputs, outputs or both?

This depends. Technically its neither

Why is this important? We take these devices for granted We use them everyday without thinking about them But what if your life dependent on these little devices? Can you think of any examples?

Activity You need to create or edit a device that will improve your life or someone else’s. You will put a short PowerPoint together to help you Explain your ideas Highlight how it is either an input or output device (show your understanding) Explain how the device works Explain the impact your device will have

Plenary What 4 things make a computer a computer? Explain using an example with an input device is Is your mobile an input or output device?
