Industry Breakfast Meetings Concept Note

Outline Defining the I.B.M Designing the I.B.M Organizing the I.B.M Conducting the I.B.M

Defining the I.B.M The Industry Breakfast Meeting (I.B.M) is a meeting of industry players all along the value chain to discuss leadership and ethics issues pertaining to different industries. The event will be held 3 times annually in a stipulated venue outside Lagos Business School. It will be made up of of 50 people. The ideal amount of time to set aside for a session will be 90 minutes.

Designing the I.B.M Participants will be drawn from the same industry e.g. Financial Services Oil & Gas Public Service Consumer Products Sponsorship will cover the cost of the venue, refreshments, purchase of relevant materials (flipcharts, printing, branded items such as cardholders and key rings etc.), promotional visits to companies etc.

Organizing the I.B.M The I.B.M will take the form of a panel discussion. The panel discussion will be designed to provide an opportunity for the group to hear several people knowledgeable about a specific issue or topic present information and discuss personal views. The panel discussion should help the audience further clarify and evaluate their positions regarding specific issues or topics being discussed and increase their understanding of the positions of others.

Organizing the I.B.M A topical issue will be identified. The issue or topic may be set forth as a topical question, a hypothetical incident, a personal experience, an actual case, etc. Three (3) panelists who are well informed about and have specific points of view regarding the issue or topic will be selected. The discussion will be moderated by the Research Manager. The panelists will be informed of the objectives the panel discussion is designed to promote in order to enable them to prepare for the discussion.

Organizing the I.B.M Participants will be chosen in any of the following ways: Nomination based on subject matter expertise Random selection Several individuals within the same organization Individuals with the same role/job title The participants will be contacted to confirm availability 15 participants will be invited, to take into consideration a possible absence rate of 20%

Conducting the I.B.M The panel discussion will follow these procedures: The moderator introduces the topic and the panelists present their views and opinions regarding the issue or topic for a set amount of time. The panelists discuss the issue or topic with each other by asking questions or reacting to the views and opinions of other panel members. A specific amount of time should be established. The leader or moderator closes the discussion and provides a summary of panel presentations and discussion. The leader or moderator calls for a Q&A period during which the other participants may participate by addressing questions to various panel members or by voicing their views and opinions. The Q & A period will be conducted by the panel leader or moderator.
