What is Math Acceleration? Mastery of grade-level standards Deepening of conceptual knowledge Application of mathematical practices Real world connections Recognizing that everything a student needs to know about Algebra begins in kindergarten Rachael

Why Accelerate? Develop conceptual knowledge Algebra I Pathway Honors/AP/IB Pathway Career and College Ready Rachael

Timeline 2015-2017: Math acceleration curricula in Grades 3-7 2015-2016: Identify master math teachers 2015-2017: Provide authentic, on-going PD to support math practices 2015-2016: All elementary schools will have a math team 2017-2018: Algebra becomes the standard curriculum in eighth grade Missy

Master Math Teachers Identify master math teachers Classroom assessment data Teacher basic skills assessment Principal input Teacher interest Opportunity to participate in math courses Monthly PD provided Teacher stipend Missy

Math Acceleration IB-PYP Identify Lead Teacher(s) per grade level that will receive the same level of training that the non-magnet departmentalized math teachers receive Williams and Providence will be staffed with a 0.5 IB Coordinator / 0.5 Math Specialist that will receive same training as the non-magnet departmentalized math teachers ASFL – allow the Reading Coach to assume math coaching responsibilities and receive same training as the departmentalized math teachers. IB Learning Lab for teachers similar to ARI framework (for summer 2016) 5 day intensive introduction to the Common Core / 8 Mathematical Practices Professional development provided by subject area experts and master teachers from HCS 10 days of embedded coaching during the 2016-2017 school year   Lee
